Cat Information

What is the most amazing thing you have seen a pet cat do?

Did you know that most cats can jump up to six times their own height? - Cats are able to do some extraordinary things when healthy! Cats by nature are obligate carnivores, so their metabolism and dietary needs are different from other species, including dogs. Cats' bodies work best when they consume a high-protein diet which reduces reliance on their less-efficient carbohydrate metabolism. Perhaps you have an amazing story about your own cat, or perhaps it is a friend’s cat – we are looking forward to hearing your best true anecdotes.

  1. My mom used to live in an old apartment that was built in the 70's so it had carpet on the walls. When our cats were kittens, they would always climb the walls and get on top of bookcases and such. One time, one of them was near the top of the wall in the hallway and "jumped" across the hall and landed halfway down the opposite wall. It was hilarious!
  2. my cat does flips when he runs out side like 12 of them in a row then he searches the whole entire yard for a single blade of grass to play with.
  3. We had a siamese long ago that would sleep on top of doors. Not the door frame ledge, the actual open door. Edit: Oh, and I just remembered when my grey tabby chased a squirrel 20 feet up a tree then looked all confused when the squirrel ran back down along the underside of the branch. Nearly gave me a heart attack though. ;D
  4. I have something cute, but not necessarily amazing. When my cat was a kitten, I was eating Persian take-out. My kitten came 'round and instead of trying to just take some meat out of the bowl, he dug his teeth in it and took the WHOLE thing with small little tugs. I, of course, didn't allow him to actually whisk it away from me to the point of no return, but I did think it was pretty cute and clever that my little kitten understood that by taking the bowl, he'd have all the food on the plate instead of just taking each meat piece one by one.
  5. Catch a bird in the air.
  6. i know someone who saved a cat and it was the meanest but most unusual cat so anyways we were all in the living room and this cat comes up (hes the type that goes around the neighborhood and fights with all the other cats :/ ) and looks at a towel on the floor and just mounts on it and starts going at it with the towel... ( WTF?!?!) after my buddy starts yelling he just looks up kinda growls grabs the towel with his teeth and walks out the front door with it trailing in between his legs it had to be one of the most funny things i have ever seen a wild cat do :) funny but weird....
  7. Using the toilet, I didnt teach my siamese to do this, she just does it
  8. We had a 15 yr old persian cat that was just about a lump. One evening we locked ourselves out of the house and I broke into one of the back windows where I knew the window lock was busted. As soon as my torso wiggled through the window, the old cat jumped on my back and started biting me and scratching me on my neck and head with all her might. She tore me up terribly. I was hurting and ended up having to do antibiotics, but so impressed with her courage. She was protecting our house with everything in her little old body and doing a darn fine job of it. I never forgot that... she did more than your average dog could do, and she only weighed maybe 7 lbs. Even though she left me with scars, I couldn't be mad.. I was very proud. She attacked for maybe 45 seconds before she knew it was me and I kid you not.. I was screaming and had tears brimming in my eyes. She let me have it. And she was a sweet sweet kitty all the long years she had been mine, so it was clear that she really was acting as a protector.
  9. One Saturday afternoon I saw my black and white moggy cat going for a group of 4 kookaburras in the back yard (which backs onto a bush reserve). I thought he was going to kill a bird but he ended up working hard to chase them away. Little did I know, but there was a baby ringtail possum that must have fallen out of one of the eucalyptus trees and was injured. Felix kept the kookaburras away and protected the little possum - now that was amazing!
  10. My cat i had a few years back would play catch with my son, my son would throw a ball and my cat would chase it, the cats i have now wont let me take a bath alone because i see there little hands under my door
  11. My 1 year old cat Rocky learned to identify objects. We would put out various objects on the table things like a candle, rubber band, pen, watch, ball, green mouse. Changing the items and order every time. We would instruct him to get the "candle" and he would study the items then tap the correct one. One night we did this for like 30 minutes and he got it right every time!
  12. I was sitting in the living room a couple of weeks ago when our black cat kept meowing at me. He's the most vocal of the 3 cats we have, and meows whenever he needs something. I went out and checked their food bowls, the water bowl (which is shared with the dogs) and the litter box. They had food, water and the litter box was clean. I went back into the living room and he continued meowing at me. He wandered off, and a few minutes later I heard water running in the bathroom. I ran over thinking that a pipe had broken or the toilet was flooding, and there was the cat, sitting on the sink drinking water out of the faucet. I looked at the water dish again and realized that there was a thin layer of dog fur and drool on top of it. He wanted me to clean the water dish so his water was fresh. One of our dogs has a slight drool issue, and sheds constantly, so even though we have an automatic waterer, we have to clean the basin of it out 2-3 times a day. He was just upset that I didn't clean it the second he demanded it. Now we have to keep the bathroom door closed because he'd rather drink out of the faucet than a bowl, and he hasn't quite mastered turning the water OFF after drinking, although I've tried to teach him.
  13. My cat Tucker, is to good for tricks he just lays around, looks out the window, very rarely goes outside, cuddles with me in my bed at night, then wakes me in the morning by purring in my ear wanting to be fed. and everything always goes his way. If their is such a thing as reincarnation I wanna come back as a Tucker cat!!! lol I guess the old saying "dogs think their human, cats think their god" is true.
  14. My cat Ignatius was abandoned at an extremely young age, and I taught him how to eat and drink. Well a couple of days after he was able to do both without me helping him, my daughter was looking for her frog. It wasn't in the aquarium. Later that night, I hear kitten growls. Iggy had caught and killed the frog and was eating it, and he wasn't even 3 months old at the time.
  15. who says fetching is just for dogs? I saw a video on utube of a kitten who would run after a toy when the owner threw it and bring it right back EVERYTIME. And not just drop it at the owners feet but the cat would actually jump on the arm of the chair holding the toy in its mouth and give it to the owner. Tooo cute!
  16. She doesn't do anything amazing, though she is quite funny. Today when I came home, she directed me to her favorite window to look out. So I go to open the blinds...but I hadn't open the window yet...this went unnoticed to her, who proceeded to jump and then bounce right off the window, lol.
  17. my male orange tabby has flushed the toilet and he also picks the toilet seat up
  18. Hi there...the most amazing thing to witness is how cats can learn new behaviours (aka tricks) on cue such as sit, lay down, rollover... etc. Both my housecats not only understand obedience commands (come, sit, down, etc) but are also toilet trained, can flush the toilet, go to wherever I point, follow a target anywhere, jump through hoops, roll over, fetch, take apart a 3-D layered puzzle, wave, give a high-five, stand up on their tippy toes and wave a paw high above their heads to ask a for a donation, open doors, fetch, do agility (like dog agility), walk on a leash in public and so much more. They understand both visual and verbal cues/signals as well and learn most new behaviours quite quickly within a matter of days and for the more complex behaviours such as balancing and walking on a basketball in a month. Here's a video of someone who has taught her house cat a couple handful of behaviours: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pcoYqlAjRk They learned so many new behaviours at a quick rate using a raining method known as operant conditioning through positive reinforcement. We never coerce/mold the cats to learn rather reward desired behaviour with food, praise (most cats only work for food) or toys and always ignore undesired behaviour so that extinguishes itself over time.
  19. "A guinea pig sing as a bird"...that´s was really funny and I really couldn´t believe it !! I supposse that animals are like "angels"...teach us lots of things...sometimes humans cannot see it ... Please help...do not buy Furs ! Lots of kisses...
  20. i had a cat that use to think he was a dog. best cat ever. he would walk with me to the bus stop for school every morning and be at the bus stop waiting for me after school. i got another kitten as well and i woke up to a dog in my front yard one morning and the kitten, being the curious thing she is, decided to try to get closer to the dog. the dog moved closer and the kitten got startled, and my cat lept down the stairs and chased the dog away...yes the dog actually ran with my cat right behind it! i rekon my cat was amazing.
  21. I used have a cat when i lived in my old townhouse, and we had a solarium ( sun room ) attached to the house and it was about 9 feet off of the ground, and this cat used to jump up there from the ground! It was the most amazing thing ever. I wish i still had her, but she ran away. And im totally not making this up! She would jump down to, and be fine.
  22. I had purchased a 10 piece carton of KFC plus some groceries one evening. After parking my car, and during the time it took me to take all my groceries in side, I walked back out to find that my cat had eaten 3 pieces of KFC. I think that's an amazing, yet unhealthy amount of KFC for a cat, not to mentioned the speed at which the cat took to it....
  23. our moggie opens doors, and our siamese eat wool ( abit of a worry) but rthe ate my school jumper i hav ethe holes to prove itl. my old cat use to go into peoples houses at night and take their socks, ( nights we couldnt find him to put him inside) and in the morning mum use to find random socks on the stairs near the door. funny cat he was.
  24. Our cat use to sit in the trees out the back and when my husband would be taking out the bins the cat use to drop on top of him. It was quite funny the first i seen him do it and my poor hubby got such a horrible fright God bless
  25. my cat killed 3 rats and brought them into my bed . "aww thankyou girl , sorry no i dont want to share them with you" -me
  26. My old cat used to follow me round my local super market, sit on my daughters desk in school. and when i was travelling to hospital to give birth to my second daughter my husband just happened to look through the rear view mirror in the car and guess who was half way to the birth with us (on the parcel shelf) yes the cat.
  27. my cats sit on the toilet or over the shower drain (squat over it ) and do their business. Amazing stuff!!! On funniest home video's I seen a cat squeeze under a closed bedroom door I don't know how it did this as the gap was only about 2 or 3 inches of the ground. But thats the most amazing thing I have ever seen a cat do.... And it was a full grown cat......
  28. My grandmother's cat Jim was very funny, as when ever he wanted to come inside after being out, he would jump up on the fly wire screen of the window near the door and hang on up there till someone let him in!
  29. As an owner of 4 cats, only one of them has me stumped at how intelligent she actually is, so i will be telling the story of my 1 and a half year old black cat Yuki... One evening i think i was watching the news or something, i hear "click... kur-thunk!" come from the cat room. (we have a room were the cats stay in the evening cos our house is setup bad 0_o) anyway just thinking the cats are playing and hectic i think nothing of it... then the door creaks and opens... i think to myself maybe i didnt shut it properly and get up and shut it. it happens again, and then i click... i open the door and Yuki is standing there and meows at me, the other 3 are asleep. "Ahh..." Yuki had jumped onto the freezer, which was next to the door and i assume she grabs the handle (one of those long handles not the round ones) in her paws and uses her weight to pull it down and then drops to the ground. if it doesnt open she tries again until it does and then just pulls the door open with her paw and walks thru with this smug look on her face. None of the other cats do this. She definitely is more calculated than them. and she just sits and watches us humans as w do things around the house. soon after she started doing other things. ive caught her open our front door to let the other cats out!! which was bad cause 2 of them werent fixed, so now that door stays locked when she is inside lol ^^ and if there is something she cant reach, like kibbles in the container, she scoops them forward with her paw. If she needs a drink and for some reason there is none in their water bowl, she jumps up and opens the bathroom door as well cos we have a leaky tap in there. until we move lol no door will be safe from her, shes got it all figured out now!! ^^ and thats probably the most ordinary story for this question no doubt but i thought id share anyways ^^ thanks for the Q it was fun Edit - additional info, my kitten since we've had her has for some reason also been "doing her business in the water bowl"!! not a trick, its more annoying lol check one of my later questions for the info to that story ^^
  30. My cat used to open doors. She was so cute. My dad didn't want her getting upstairs during the night so he closed the doors but she opened them and came upstairs anyway. x]
  31. Once i was sleeping in a spare room, for quiet, and my very loyal dog, layed with her nose under the door till i woke up. My daughter told me. How loyal is that, its not a trick but its amazing just the same
  32. My Cat Oswald fetches if you throw a ball anywhere he will appear minutes later with the ball!
  33. My 16 month old cat is quite mischevious. We have a house that has a sort of rumpus room downstairs. The wall doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling, so there is a gap of about half a metre and on the other side of the wall is our under house area ful of dirt and grit. The room is located below our bedroom, so my fiance decided to make a hatch in our walk in robe where the kittens could go down and play. He made a series of steps and ramps all the way down to the ground. There were gaps where the kittens could jump from the stairs to the top of the wall and sit there. Whisky decided it would be geat fun to go that bit extra and go exploring under the house. So my fiance decided to put up some barriers so he couldn't easily jump it. It worked for a bit until Whisky figured out that if he stood on a particular step and jumped quickly onto the top of the door ledge that was near the landing, he could then launch himself onto the wall and over to the under house area. We couldnt figure out how he was doing it for days, until my fiance decided just to go down there and watch. Sure enough whisky leaps from the landing, lands with his front feet on the door ledge, then as the back legs caught up, leap again to the wall. Amazing!! Of course now the whole entire structure is covered in chicken wire, but I still think it is amazing that he even thought about how to get under the house. I think he thought it would be a great adventure!!
  34. When my cat Truffles was a kitten if you threw a little toy mouse for her she would bring it back for you to throw again and again. Now she is older, if she is locked out at night she will "knock" on the front door until I let her back in, then she will "knock" again when she wants to get out. I did read an amazing story once about a mother cat and her daughter cat, the mother cat disappeared, meanwhile the daughter cat had kittens, the daughter cat then got hit by a car and died, suddenly the mother cat came back to feed her daughers kittens even though she hadn't been seen for months. The owners followed the mother cat to where she was living and she had kittens of her own as well. How did she know to come back and feed her daughters kittens? Amazing....
  35. So its cute as well: At my friends house 5 other girls (and I) were having a sleepover and one of my friends scared her cat, Sammy. So I said "Sammy, meow if you hate this girl" he meowed! "Sam, DONT meow if you love me" he didnt meow! He kept doing it all night at the right moments! xx so cute!
  36. The amazing thing that my cat does is he is able to run the tap on the water cooler! Don't know if this is a good thing or not but so far he only does it when we are around..seems to be a little routine he does in the morning and then he washes himself LOL
  37. don't know if it's amazing or more funny, my cat was a dumped kitten but as she grew she got attitude. she was walking along the top rail of the horses fence when our gelding stock horse went to sniff her so she wrapped herself around his face (didn't harm him) and held on for a couple of minutes, ever since when the cat went out to the paddock the horse gave her a very wide berth!!!
  38. My cat Timmy is 6 years old, He also pulls weeds out in the garden with his teeth he will lay in the garden for hours pulling out weeds
  39. i was blessed to have a ginger cat .his name was lucky.he got his name because he survived being thrown off a 4 story balcony twice. he once saved my life. i was young and had plaster on my ankle and was forced to get around with crutches. i had an argument with my mother and left to go for a walk. not paying attention i put my crutches in the gutter ready to cross the road , when lucky bit my good ankle . i looked down at him just as a car went flying by . had he not stopped me i would have swung right into the car . he was my best friend i still miss him 30 years later
  40. Well, my mum used to have a kitten called Middy and she used to run as fast as she could, up the sofa and up the curtains until she was on the curtain rail. Then she used to meow like crazy!!! Honestly you wouldn't beleive how much she would meow !! Then mum would have to get her down with something. Then about 5 minutes later, she would go back up!! I have a really fat cat so the most amazing thing he has ever done is ran!!!
  41. It's my neighbors cat. It jumped up and caught the birds that made a sunday out of sitting on the power line over my jeep. He soo got it. Nothing but fethers now. Thanks yellow tabbie.
  42. My tabby cat stands on the toilet bowl and watches the water and he watches the water in the bathtub. He also sleeps in the wash basin
  43. My very large 13 year old cat stands on his back paws and turns the door nob with his front paws to open doors to get in, he also jumps up and hangs by his claws from the handle of sliding doors & does knee ups to slid the door open enough to get his paw in to slid it open ( sneekly ole buggar)
  44. i have a cat that is super duper naughty.... i was thinking is he monkey, dog or cow... he dont like to eat fish, he love to eat chicken, dont like other cat but he likes to be with dog. he is super fierce he biten few people till that person have to admited in hospital. ha like to climb around. he dont like children. he want to follow where ever i go. he will sit in side my big handbag. he like to play if i dont play with him he will bite me till i play with him.....
  45. Have a Bengal and she loves to fetch. Follows me around all day and wants to get involve in everything I do. Love having bath or showers with me.
  46. my cat Ophelia (fee) is absolutely amazing. she doesnt like fish or fresh meat of any kind but LOVES fresh veges esp sweet potato and zucchini. she is also fascinated by water, she drinks out of the tap and will chase the spray of water out of the hose, even if she gets soaking wet. she will also sit in the bath and wait for a dribble of water (not good in a drought!! I know) to play with. she is no particular breed, just a moggy from the animal welfare league, but she is def the most amazing cat i have ever owned.
  47. jump up onto the toilet, squat and do wee
  48. I have a 9 month old orange kitty named Mango that we rescued from an animal shelter. He is by far the most strange and sweet cat I have ever had. I also have a three year old daughter. Wehn we first got him, she was still learning how to be gentle with pets. Once when I wasn't home, daddy wasn't paying very much attention and she attempted to cut Mango's hair... she accidentally got his ear instead :( She was disciplined (that's the only time I have ever spanked my child), and Mango got 3 stitches at the vet. My daughter was really upset about this, and when he came home, she was very gentle with him and said she was sorry. He proceeded to lick her for several minutes, climb into her lap and sleep. He still to this day has never slept in me or my husband's lap. It's as though he knows she is a child, and makes mistakes. To this day, he loves her. I can't figure it out. She holds him in positions that don't seem comfortable and uses him for a pillow. I would think this would be uncomfortable for him, but he seems to love it. He will sit there for hours and serve as her pillow... it's ridiculous! In addition to this, he lives to play. he has lots of toys and his own toy box. His favorite toy is a long pole with tinsel-like strands attached to it. If no one will play with him voluntarily, he gets his toys out of the box and drags them to us. Sometimes he comes in our room with his toy in mouth and wakes up out of a dead sleep so that we can play with him. It's really funny. Sometimes I get up in the morning and all ten of his toys are strewn about my living room floor! He also tries to answer my phone. when my cell phone rings, he goes to wherever it is and paws at it. He also will not attack bare human flesh. You can get most cats to nibble on your hand during play. Not this cat! The only time he will attack your hand is if you retract inside your sweatshirt sleeve and your bare skin isn't exposed... then it's fair game! It's funny because if your hand isn't covered,he will grab onto it like he's going to bite it, but instead just licks it to death! He also talks to me. I meow, and he meows back. at first I didn't think this was strange. But one day, he was sitting at the window and meowing in a way that almost sounded like laughter it was like a "Meow-ha ha ha ha ha." When my husband woke up, I was trying to explain the noise he was making. As I imitated this noise to my husband, the cat did it again. It was really strange! He never ceases to entertain us with his crazy cat antics!
  49. This is hallarious! This cat is not mine but I saw this video on youtube. It's about this cat and he uses the restroom in a toilet lol! He can flushes it too! : D then it gets groose and it shows the poop in the toilet. : ( eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!
  50. Nothing.. cats are amazing... BUT DOGS ARE
