Cat Information

What kind of cat litter should I get for a long haired cat that gets it all stuck in her fur?

My cat always stinks because she is getting litter all over her when she goes to the bathroom, it gets in her tail, feet, and sanitary area, and some time there is poop on the litter that is on her...I can't stand it any more. I have bathed her, but she stinks the next day, there is no stopping it! Any suggestions on a litter that wont stick in her fur would be great! Thanks!

  1. there is a Crystals cat litter but its 16 bucks a bag. it last really long and wont stick to the cat
  2. You could just go ahead and trim (emphasis on trim, not shave) the fur of her pants (undersides of her hind legs) and the underside of her tail a bit and see if that takes care of the problem.
  3. A great litter to use is crystals and when the cat does a poo the litter dosnt stink either. it might also help if you cleaned out the litter everyday
  4. I'm not sure what part of the world you are from, but Oko Plus sell a litter called Cat's Best Nature's Gold which is specifically designed for cat's with long fur. It is clumping but wood based as opposed to non clumping wood based, which may also be an idea. It has the added advantage of being toilet flush able so is in effect environmentally friendly. I find it fantastic, and a bag does me about 3 weeks for two cat's. Silica/ crystal based litter has several disadvantages such as it is often difficult to see when it needs changed, lumps created can be messy, can be refused by a number of cats due to lumpy texture, can be expensive and can be hard on paws and human feet! But it has been said that this litter is extremely absorbent. I composed a thread on a pet forum about the advantages and disadvantages of all types of litter, so if you would like to e-mail me i will refer you too it.
