What's the best cat litter to use for more than one cat that does NOT contain silicone?

I'm allergic to the dust from the silicone crystal-type cat litter. I have an adult cat and a little kitten with a very stinky butt. I tried "World's Best Cat Litter" and liked it, but it's really damned expensive. Any other alternatives?

  1. Yep, the good ones are damn expensive. I would try the cheapest one that is dust free, clumping, and then stir in very inexpensive baking soda.
  2. Have you heard of "Feline Pine?" Well, wood stove pellets are the exact same thing for abou $7 for 40 pounds (and no tax). Cheapest cat litter on the market, super at controlling odors and bacteria, and, totally compostable. What could be better? Cheap, long lasting, odor control, and environmentally friendly.
  3. Find a feed store near you. For a product very similar to the "World's Best Cat Litter", you can purchase a chicken feed product. I believe it's cracked corn. (The same ingredient ats World's Best.) It's a large bag (I think 50 pounds), so you want to have something to store it in so it doesn't attract bugs. Significantly less expensive. Pelletized Pine Bedding is basically the same thing as Feline Pine at about half the price. Comes in 35 or 40 pound bags.
  4. www.reinbiotech.com/breeder_celect/breeder_celect.jsp This website has a wonderful cat litter made entirely of recycled paper,. It also does not track the way silicone and clay litters do. It is also allergan free! a good product, but a little pricey. The dust free litter Amazon has to offer, is cheaper and will do the job job as well. It is "cleaner "than other products on the market. I think I would try it first, to see if it meets your needs.
  5. We like Feline Pine. They are natural pine pellets. It may take a little time for the cats to get used to it, but we love it because it just turns into sawdust. The only time it smells is when we empty out the box. They also have a box that works well with it.
  6. What a shame! I recently switched the the crystals (with the Scoop Free box) and they have been wonderful. Before that though, I tried all sorts of cat litter. The very best I ever found was Arm & Hammer Crystal Blend. It has tiny crystals mixed in with clay litter... do you think you would be okay with that? This litter was the best clay-based litter I ever found. The next best was Arm & Hammer’s multi-cat, which of course also has some crystals in it... poo (no cheezy joke intended) I would say give the regular old Arm & Hammer a shot... see if you like that. The ones with crystal blends are pretty awesome, but when I couldn’t find those I would use the plain and it worked pretty good too. How bad is your allergy? With the Scoop Free litter box I never even have to touch it, or mess with it aside from once every 3-4 weeks when I switch out the crystals (one cat). Is it skin or respiratory? If it is skin you could always use gloves to change the box.
  7. Feline Pine pellets, and EverClean scooping litter. Feline Pine really takes care of the odor, and the pellets dissolve into sawdust. You can even compost if you are so inclined (I’m not!) Next to no dust, and much less tracking than with regular litter. They also sell a sifting litter box made especially for use with the pellets, and it works great. You can buy the box at the website http://www.felinepine.com Not every cat likes the pellets at first, so be sure to follow the directions on the bag about transitioning over to Feline Pine. EverClean has nearly no dust (unless you pour it very rapidly into the litter box), and it clumps the hardest of any litter I’ve ever seen. It is more expensive than the grocery store brands, but you get what you pay for. Great odor control, too! Just a thought--what you are feeding your cats may well be contributing to their stinky butts. It’s one of those "garbage in, garbage out" situations. Grocery store food brands have lots of junk ingredients in them, which means more, and stinkier, waste products into the litter box. Try a holistic brand, like Wellness, Solid Gold, California Natural, Innova Evo, or Eagle Pack Holistic Select, to name just a few. Again, they will be more expensive than the grocery store brands, but are much healthier. You will see your cats’ fur become softer and fuller, and there will be less noxious waste in the litterbox. 8. We use Fresh Step crystals it is 99% dust free - it also comes in scoopable (regular, blends, multiple cat and free) and in Clay. Fresh Step uses carbon technology - you might want to try the multiple cat scoopable! Not expensive - we buy it at Pet Smart in very large bags that last for months. Fresh Step® Multiple Cat Strength Litter For litter strong enough for multiple cats try Fresh Step® Multiple Cat Strength Scoopable litter. It contains even more of our patented ingredient that inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria and works better to eliminate odors than even the leading Multiple Cat litter.* good luck! : )
