Is the stevia plant safe for cats to eat?

Hi all, My cat's birthday is in 6 days. She's got a ton of toys, scratchers, beds, etc. So I want to make her a pot full of non-toxic plants to eat(she loves eating plants and certain fruits). My local plant store has a lot of Stevia plants on sale. I was considering putting a few in the pot. I just need to know if stevia is toxic to cats. Thank you, FuturePetVet

  1. Dear Future, I know nothing about the Stevia plant, but I would not give my cats any plant other than Cat Grass. You can purchase this in Pet stores. It comes under many names .ie. Cosmic Kitty Herbs. You can purchase the seeds themselves and using a small pot plant them and when they are grown 3-4 inches tall set it down for the cat to munch on. This consists of Barley,Oat and Wheat grasses. You may also find kits already with the container, planting dirt and seeds already to be watered , grown and given to kitty. I use the seeds because it is more economical and I can plant pots in succession so my cats always access to grass. Cats need to eat grass so they can bring up any hairballs that collect in their stomachs. It wouldn't hurt to offer kitty some cooked green beans, carrots, potatoes. I had a cat that liked green beans and one right now who eats cooked carrots and of all things ICEBERG lettuce, she'll be 16 years old in August. For now just try the cat grass made for cats. You may find the kits in the pet isle in your local grocery store chain
