How to get wet cat litter out of carpet?

Okay .. i was cleaning my cat room today. There was a spot on the carpet where my kitten got sick so i thought i would clean it up. Well, there was some cat litter (clumping littler) on the carpet so when i put hot water and soap on it the littler turned to mush. I sort of made it worse by added more water to see if i could just scrub it out. Anyways, i was wondering what would be the best way to get it out? Should i let it dry before i do anything else?

1. let it dry and then use the vacume hose on the spot it shout come right up:)
2. let it dry and then get as much of it up as you can then get carpit cleaner to finish cleaning it
