How do I remove cat litter odor from shower ?

Former tenant used shower to keep cat litter box. Old grout was removed, new grout was placed around each ceramic tile and then sealed with a sealer. New tenant says shower still has odor. How do I get rid of this odor?

  1. pour a gallon of bleach in there and let it sit for about half the day. Athis should help and make shower nice and clean.
  2. I'd wipe the area down with full strength Clorox liquid bleach to insure that there is no urine remaining on the surface. I'd also pour some down the shower drain to make sure that there is no urine in the liquid filled odor trap located under the drain itself. Be sure to flush the Clorox down through the pipes with hot water to make sure it doesn't corode them. If that still doesn't kill the odor, then it is coming from somewhere else. Most homes have a crawl space under the house and I'd check down there for the odor problem. If you are unable or afraid to go down under there, you can buy a hand pumped PLASTIC (DO NOT USE A METAL ONE!) pressure sprayer, fill it with 75% warm water plus 25% bleach, and spray the area from either the nearest crawlspace access OR through the small vent holes into the crawl space nearest the smelly area from the outside of the building.
