How often are you supposed to change out cat litter?

I have the scoopable kind of cat litter. Like every time the cat uses the litter box should i scoop out the waste or every morning and every night or what? And I heard I only need to change the litter itself every month? Is this right?

  1. You need to clean out the litter box (scoop out the waste) twice a day. Cats are very picky about where they go to the bathroom and will often stop using the litter box if it's dirty so it's best to clean it out twice a day. I replace all the litter once every 2-3 weeks.
  2. Once a month..... No way You should completely empty and clean the pan once a week.
  3. Not exactly. It is good to scoop it out whenever you see any poop. When it still smells bad after you scoop the stuff out then it is time to change it, because then your cat probably wont look forward to the smell every time he uses it. Hope this helps. =^.^=
  4. How many cats do you have?? The rule of thumb for litter boxes is one box per cat plus one additional and they should be scooped at least once a day. I have 2 cats and 4 litter boxes and I scoop them twice daily. Every two weeks I do a complete scrub down and change of litter. Most cats prefer unscented litter. Sometimes the scented stuff can deter them from using their litter box.
  5. For some reason, I have to totally scoop it out and replace the litter everyday. I can't just scoop it, because the litter doesn't clump well and it gets everywhere.
  6. You should scoop out the solids as often as you can - I do it every time my cat does a poop. It's just like if you had poop floating in your toilet - you wouldn't want to use it, would you? You flush every time you use it, so it's just the same with a cat. I change the whole litter every two days - this might be longer or shorter depending on the type of litter you use. Of course, your cat will let you know if it's too dirty by pooping on the floor next to the litter, or trying to "cover" the litter box over by scratching on the ground around it.
  7. It really depends on your cat's preference and how often he/she goes. I have 3 cats and 2 litter boxes and I usually clean them both every 2 days..even then they're not full. Granted our boxes are fairly large and have about 5-6 in. of litter in them. Sometimes I have to clean them every day..sometimes I can go 4 or 5 days..it just depends. My cats come get me if they think it's too dirty for them to use, so it's been fairly easy. Changing all the litter also depends on your cat. Some cats are smellier than others, so it's really up to you. I change it all if I can still smell it after I've scooped everything out. The color of the litter will become darker if there's too much urine in it. Arm & Hammer Odor Alert Litter has crystals in it that turn blue when they come in contact with urine..so if most of the litter has blue crystals through it..it's time to change all of it...which usually is around a month.. give or take. If you think it's too expensive, you can at least use it until you get an idea of how long it takes to become soiled and then switch to something cheaper. I tend to like it better since it has baking soda in it and really absorbs the odor. Hope this helps!
  8. depends on the kind you use. at least daily, but more often for the poopies. the cleaner the box, the more apt the cat is to use it and the more sanitary your home. there is no need for emptying and replacing the litter if it is scoopable -just add more as needed. when using regular clay litter, clean daily and empty box weekly. clean with bleach and water at least once a month.
  9. I clean the litter daily, but I totally replace it every two weeks. Cats are very picky where they go to the bathroom, so keeping it clean is a top priority.
  10. Scoop it... I guess every other day, change it every week.
  11. scoopable every month
