How safe is cat litter for bunnies?
I use the cat litter that says it's 100% organic and made of corn starch. Now I know that clay based cat litter is bad for bunnies, but what about the corn starch ones?

- I USED CAT LITTER FOR MY RABBIT. I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM. THE VET TOLD ME TO USE IT FOR HER.
- Depends on how much of it you feed them. Stick to lettuce and carrots. joking aside.....wouldn't rabbits eat corn starch litter. I mean cats are carnivorea..rabbits herbivores...corn starch litter sounds delicious ( if you are a rabbit ) ???
- You want to use a litter that doesn't clump or stick to the rabbit's fur. You don't want the rabbit to ingest a lot of litter, which is what happens with clay. It just sits in their stomachs, building up till it causes a helluva tummyache. Rabbits can actually die of pain. Yesterday's news and corn cob litters work well, as does traditional pine shavings (not cedar). I'm not familiar with corn starch litter.
- If you choose to use cat litter for bunnies then use the pine pelleted kind. This is not only safe on the environment but actually recyclable. You can put it around your gardens and trees after use. Or there is a litter called Pa-Purr. Its recycled news paper. Or a pelleted litter called Yesterdays News. All of these can be found at your nearest PetSmart.
- rabbits need to be on a wire grate. using litter as their bedding is not a good idea because the can get urine scald on their feet from the fur being wet.
