Can a dog that eats cat feces from a litter box have intestinal blockage?
I have the type of cat litter that clumps together for easy cleaning. I have read that it is common for dogs to eat cat feces because of the oils in cat food that attract dogs. But I haven't heard if the clumping effect might harm the dogs GI tract. He gets sick (throwing up) every once in a while and I though it might be related to him eating out of the litter box.

- yes they can end up with blockages. especially with clumping litter. DO NOT LET YOUR DOG EAT OUT OF THE CAT BOX.
- I don't know if it leads to GI blockage but if the litter has crystals (often blue in color) it may be lethal.
- i dont think the chemicals in the litter are safe.. be careful and keep and eye on your dog..
- Yes, clumping cat litter could very easily kill a dog by way of obstruction. You have to keep the kitty litter box away from the dog entirely. You should really use a safer litter.
- Clumping litter could indeed cause digestive problems in a dog. Becomes like concrete in the bottom of the litter box, may do the same in the dog's gut. Just eating cat poop would make me throw up. Try putting a baby gate across the doorway of the room where the litter box is (works with small dogs; they can't jump it but the cat can) or put the litter box in a cupboard, utility closet (obviously not in with your clothes) or garage with a SMALL pet door if your dog is larger.
- take it to the vet asap. the answer is yes.litter of any kind will scratch its insides causing internal bleeding.let alone the the chemicals and dyes used in the litter.
