What is the best method for keeping cat litter off of the carpet?

How do you keep the cat litter where it belongs? Do you use a special box? or a special liner or mat? Please share all of your tips!

1. use one of the covered litter boxes and a grass matt right in front I use a concrete mixing pan and they still spread it all over!
2. There are many different types of cat boxes that can help with this. Some have a lid that goes around the edges, there are some the cat has to jump into that is about 2.5 feet tall. I personally use a plastic carpet mat.
3. Litter box with high walls, I made one out of a Rubbermaid tote Litter mat- http://www.grouponepetproducts.com/index.html I also use pelleted cat litter, Feline Pine, it tracks less on the floor.
4. i would get a mat and put it under the litter box but if you want something else there is some litter boxes that will not allow litter to come out of the box. it has big walls so the litter will not come out. its really nice.
5. This is odd, but I bought a storage bin for a litter box. I just got it from Walmart for about $4. It's just those rubbermaid storage containers with the lid. Mine wasn't rubbermaid brand, but you probably know what I'm talking about. Obviously, I don't put the lid on it. Anyhow, my mom gave me the idea. I didn't think my cat would want to jump in it, then jump back out, but I noticed she actually prefers that to her other standard litter box. Maybe it gives her the feeling that she's hiding when she's doing her thing?
