What's the best cat litter for a multi cat household?
Hello, guys! I have six cats. I have to change the the two litter boxes I have every 2-3 days because the ammonia smell is really bad..and it gets dirty fast (I scoop it multiple times a day). I buy tidy cats for multiple cats. Anyway, what cat litter do you think is the best for multiple cat households. I will spend a lot of money on it if it means that I have to change it less often. Thanks. does adding baking soda to the litter box really help the smell? Thanks.

- You should try a covered litterbox if you don't have one already. There is a new one with a built in air purifier on the top. It runs $90, but will help with the smell. I have 6 cats as well, but I have 3 litter boxes. I don't scoop everyday and it does not smell at all. I also use the Tidy Cats litter for Multiple cats. It might just be the type of box your using and the number of boxes. The more the better, especially with six cats! Also consider an automatic litter box. The best one I've found is the Robo Litter Box. It's about $300 so it's something you'll probably have to save for, but he smell is gone from that as well. **Baking soda never did anything for my litter boxes when they did start to stink. I'd just change the litter out instead.
- Tidy Cats is the way to go. And Baking soda does help a little bit. Get Fresh step and combine the two litters if you think it's needed.
- Tidy Cat is the best we have come across so far. It usually comes in a tub and is very easy to clean. There isn't a smell at all, or at least not when we've used it.
- 1. You need a big litter box that has a cover on it...that way you can change the filters every now and then at the top (it costs all of $1-$2 to change). 2. I have found that the very best litter that Tidy Cat makes is the Orange topped one...I believe it's for small spaces. My cats litter box only needs to be changed once about 1.5-2 weeks so that we can't smell it. 3. Adding the cat litter deoderizer, like arm and hammer, realllllllllly helps! I have found that putting it on the bottom before the litter and then on top of the litter works great and helps the smell a bit more :) and putting it on the bottom also makes the litter box easier to clean because their waste doesn't stick as much. Hope these tips help. Good luck!
- Tidy Cat - long lasting odor control. It's the best! Oh, and I use an old potato masher to clean out the p--p daily. It's a lot quicker that the commercial p--per scoopers.
- fresh step, multi cat tidy cats, arm and hammer kitty litter and baking soda helps a little
- I have 3 cats, 2 boxes and I use a regular clay litter similar to what you use. I scoop both daily, I empty the boxes and wash them each week then begin with fresh litter. I use about 1/2 box of baking soda in each box weekly. And now that summer is here there is an odor. A friend uses an expensive litter called The World's Best Litter and she raves about it. No, her apartment does not smell. I am probably going to buy some this weekend. Here is their site: http://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com/
- Feline Pine
- I currently use the clumping kind. It works best if you do these 2 simple things... 1. Keep it VERY FULL of litter. Don't let it go to some thin layer! 2. Scoop it every day! I also like the silica stuff (NOT the round "pearls".. they're HELL to sweep up!), but it doesn't work well with CLUMPING litter, only REGULAR litter. DON'T USE BAKING SODA.... it's simply not as effective as ACTIVATED CHARCOAL. You can find it in the FISH TANK section of the pet department/store. Activated Charcoal has a HUMONGOUSLY larger SURFACE AREA than baking soda for absorbing odors. (This is SCIENTIFIC FACT! --- see Wikipedia article below) It's not that expensive, and you mix it in with the litter. It does no harm to the cats. Personally, however, I am waiting to purchase a CatGenie!!! (See link below) NO MORE LITTER! NO MORE SCOOPING! It's not cheap, but it's worth it! (they take payments, too... and if you're REALLY interested I can advise you how to save $60 on the price!... but this is NOT A SOLICITATION!!! I just know the promo code from their tv ad!)
