Cat Information

What are the health risks of wearing cat flea collars on ankles?

I sometimes work in the crawl spaces under houses where ferrel cats live, This means lots of jumping biting black pepper -better known as sand fleas(cat fleas)! A lot of the other guys that do my same job wear a cat flea collars around each ankle. Can this lead to any health problems if worn for extended lengths of time? I know some of the solders in Iraq and Afghanistan do the same thing.

  1. no fleas
  2. Are you then in training to volunteer for those invasions? The only problem you may have with the wearing of these collars, is you may become as intelligent as the cats.
  3. of course if there is a chronic exposure then there is tendency to get the knee problem . soldiers in Iraq and afghanistan are used to this and it is part of their job and they are immuned to it.
  4. I'd wear pants and have the collars on the outside of the pants, imho. Cats have fur as a barrier to the collars, so I think the safest thing would be to not let it actually touch your skin all the time. I doubt there have been any studies about this situation, but it should be done if people are using them like this. Have you considered contacting the manufact. of the collars to find out if there are any? I know exactly what you mean about considering "off label" use of products. I am on treatment for Lyme disease right now and I am looking at my dog's frontline and thinking...hmmmm..... lol!
