Should we or should we not ban the sale of Cats and Dogs?
This is a debatable question and we are currently debating this as our debate. I would like people to post their idea upon this and if possible please give me some facts aswell! Thanks a lot, Zamorak! P.S>debate about it! You can say yes we should ban or no we shouldn't because either way it will help me! Cheers! ya.......but isn't restriction and bannign the same thing? anywayz my debate is on banning the sale of cats and dogs in pet stores. So I mean if people still love cats and dogs they will just buy them or illegelly hunt them down from the wildlife to keep as pets, or illegelly breed them and re-sale them? From the responces so far I have recieved accounted accusations for appaling resalling of puppies, un-rightful mating, Pets have their own rights, Good homes aren't always guaranteed, Mandatory screening is required and Pets should be a reward, not provoked. Well..I say, first of all, reselling of puppies is a method of en-suring a rightful home for a young puppie in this advanced human world, which doesn't have the usual habitat for the wild anylonger which has broken all existence of many endangered animals and has no place for a released cat or dog to roam freely, or be back to their habitat as their ancestors had once been. The age of Animal freedom is no longer and it is time animals were aware of that, I apoligise for any dos-comfort but it is fact and for that it is not safe to return domestic pets to their wildlife.Un-rightful mating is good in one-sence, because it prevents early endagerment, and for assuring good home placement for pets, if a pet is a-stray chipping resolv s any a-stray animal conditions. Only through pet-stores are your new pets enabled to be chipped, scanned, vaccinated even mandirated for a healthy life with their master/family! This doesn't mean the pet doesn't have to come back ever again for vaccination etc. it means that the initial bought item is scanned and clean and is new as new can be, it will need attention and will need your time and effort, but as I said the initial bought item is better than the hunted wild animal, just how a domestic pet should be. As for Pet Animals should be rewarded and not provoked.....well......that is like treating a pet as a lollipop, given only when the child is being good. Pets are not, and will never be considered as lollies, they cannot be just given away, their are licences and registrations needed for pet ownership, and without these you cannot own a pet anywhere in the world, legally. Pets are like our brothers and sisters not like a suck-able lollipop.
Public Comments
- not ban, but put restrictions
- I think we should nearly ban it. As in, there should be some specific chosen (responsible) breeders to keep breeds alive and the genetic pool thriving for different breeds, but other than that I don't think the general public should be allowed to breed and sell animals. Also, those specific breeders should be required to screen all people interested in their puppies or kittens to make sure the animal is going to a good, responsible home. The selling of animals is irresponsible and leads to people viewing animals as a sort of merchandise. It also makes it so anyone with enough money can buy an animal regardless of the sort of life they will give that animal, which is not in an animal's best interest. In addition to this, it makes people think, "Oh, I have this dog, and if I just mate her to this dog I can make sure good money off the puppies!" which partly lends to the pet overpopulation crisis today. Either that or, because they consider that they could breed the dog later they don't spay or neuter him/her, and next thing you know there are more unwanted puppies and kittens filling up the shelters and being euthanized. Not to mention things like puppy mills. Due to the fact that you can make a profit off of breeding and selling animals, there are people out there who use this to make a profit without considering the animals' best interest at ALL. Something needs to be done so that it is considered unacceptable to use the breeding and sales of animals to turn a profit--otherwise there will always be irresponsible people using the animals for money instead of thinking about their welfare. Puppy mills are horrible, horrible places (I may be adopting a puppy mill dog this week from a rescuer, and he has his problems), and they exist because of this attitude of animals being a piece of merchandise that you can just manufacture and sell to make a profit. This is not fair at all. Essentially, I believe in adoption, not selling. There are far too many animals dying in shelters today to allow people to make money off of generating more and more animals through breeding, and money is a big motivator for people to continue to breed. Also, selling animals does not guarantee the animal will find a good home--there should definitely be a mandatory screening process to make sure all animals go to responsible, loving homes who will be able to care for them. Pet ownership should be a privilege that can be revoked instead of a right, and selling animals does not help work towards that end.
- It should be restricted in some cases and banned in others all cats and dogs unless you are a registered breeder or you are registered for showing them should be neutered..pet shops get a lot of their animals from breeders that are just breeding them for the money and don't care about their genetic background or inbred breeding defects..the pet shops also sell them to young they take them away from their mothers before they are socialised properly..which can cause problems in some animals..I have a friend that works at the RSPCA and she is broken hearted about the amount of beautiful animals euthanased so if you need a pet go to an animal shelter not a pet shop.
