Cat Information

Anyone tried the cat litter that are crystals instead of clay or corn?

I bought a Booda and switched to corn litter. The smell has gone by the way side but the cat still manages to get litter all over the bathroom. I also go one of those tracking mats but that hasn't helped. Has anyone tried the crystal litter? How is it? I am hoping that a when I get my cat neutered he will calm down in the box. oops. I meant to type I got a tracking mat. :) Booda litter box has a lid and I do have a mat outside the door of it. I am living in a small apartment so I can't get anything larger than the box I have. So from all of the responses I should stick to what I have. Thanks everyone.

  1. ....and they taste great too!
  2. some cats are just exuberant scratchers, the crystal litter is great but i dont think it is any less "flingable". In your case probably the deeper the box (within reason of course) the better.
  3. Crystal litter will be just as difficult to clean up off the floor, sadly :/ And corn litter has always worked best for me, good choice! Crystal litters, in my opinion, are just a gimmick to make the product seem more revolutionary and scientific. I bought them for years and they never covered up the smell, even with one of those lids on the cat box with the carbon filter thing.
  4. I tried the wheat... didn' like it I have a friend who used the crystals but she said it smelled worse than a dirty litter box. I am now trying to train my cat to use the toilet so I don't have to use it at all! good luck
  5. Try a covered litter box. I have used one for years and years. I also keep a small scrap of carpet just outside the box for the cat to step on as she comes out. Less mess with a covered box. Try one !
  6. yuck! i hate crystals - it doesnt clump!! how the heck are you supposed to clean it?
  7. Haven't tried the crystal litter. We use the wood stove pellets - it works well and is pretty cheap ($5 for 40 lbs) and is found in farm stores.
  8. If I were you I wouldn't use crystal cat litter because it doesn't clump and makes it harder to get the ditry litter out. I'd stick with the simple "special Kitty"
  9. the crystal litter I tried had very sharp pointy bits on each piece. It was very uncomfortble for my cat to walk on. It also is supposed "absorb" the urine, but it really wasn't that effective, and you have to stir it up to get it to absorb all the urine. I am not a fan. some people have built litter box boxes, so the cat has to go in one side then jump down to get into the box to try to help keep the litter inside the box.
