cat health question regarding feline worms?

I think my young cat may have worms. he is not vomiting or losing Weight. He seems normal. However, we have noticed in his feces, little white grains (rice looking particles). They are not live or moving it just looks like he ingested rice. Are these some type of worm??? He is an indoor cat. We adopted him about 7 months ago from an ad in the paper. and they said he was healthy. We saw the mama kitty and siblings all appeared healthy. He does get into the garbage at times before we catch him, how did he get them if it is worms?? OMG lefty ty, he did in fact catch a field mouse a few months back and kinda did what cats do to it...... very detailed ty mad s

  1. sounds like tapeworms. they get these from fleas or eating rodents . contact your vet for a dewormer and a flea product
  2. These are very likely tapeworms These are the casings from the worm. A cat can get these from infected feces, eating bugs or rodents or fleas. If the cat goes outside, it is almost a given. very easily treated by your vet with either an injection or powder to add to the food. See your vet. Tapeworms are flat worms that are segmented. They consist of a head, neck, and then a number of segments. The head usually has suckers or muscular grooves that enable the tapeworm to attach itself to the animal's intestine. Each tapeworm segment has its own reproductive organs. New segments are continually formed in the neck region of the worm while those at the end of the tapeworm are cast off as they mature. These mature segments contain large numbers of eggs which are often grouped into packets. The segments may often be seen near the anus of the cat or dog. These segments may move if recently passed, or if dried, they look like grains of uncooked rice or cucumber seeds. Tapeworm infections are usually diagnosed by finding these segments on the animal as you did. Even an indoor cat can get worms from dirt tracked in on shoes, eating insects or rodents, or exposure at birth. Some worms are hard to detect as kittens, and unless tested at an annual check up may go unnoticed. On a related note, I cannot suggest the 'self' wormers available over the counter. Maybe as a follow up treatment, but NOT for a kitten and not for the first time treatment.
  3. I love cats and have had plenty of them. I would suggest you to walmart and buy the worm medication. Read the directions. It's easy, you just buy the moist food and pour some of the liquid in there and mix it with the food then serve it to them. You actually have to do this every three months. Even if you don't see anything. Just like humans, we got to deworm ourselfs, specially if your a fast food lover. Peace out! Hope this helped.
  4. Sounds like tapeworms (which come from fleas) if it looks like rice. Take him to the vet to be checked and properly wormed for whatever he has.
  5. My cat had worms, we thought they looked like sesame seeds. You just need to take him to the vet and they can give him some antibiotics to take care of it. He was just a baby when he had them, and I don't think he had hunted anything yet, but I've heard it can be a problem with indoor/outdoor cats. My cat acted totally normal too, so its tempting not to worry too much, but you definitely need to get it checked out. Good luck!
  6. Sounds like tapeworms. It's often from ingesting fleas. You'll need to get some tapeworm tablets for him & your other cats (if any) More information on tapeworms: http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/tapeworms.html
