Are there any hypoallergenic cats?
I want a cat that is a small or medium cat that doesn't shed a lot and is hypoallergenic, anything but the siberian cat breed because I can't seem to find the siberian cat breed for sale.

- I wouldn't advise a siberian cat anyway, they are really jumpy and attack any sudden movement, its like living with a ninja that hates you. they are small stealthy and you'll Always lose the fight.
- There are breeds that are either curly haired and low shedding (such as the Cornish or Devon Rex) or hairless that are less likely to trigger allergies, but it's the dander in their skin and saliva that makes you allergic, so some sensitive people will have problems with those breeds too. So it depends on the person. No cat is 100% hypoallergenic. The claims that Siberians are hypoallergenic are unproven.
- According to the national allergy association, there are no hypoallergenic pets - even hamsters and turtles have problems with the shavings or mold. You are allergic to it's dander which is dried spit on the fur, not the actual fur. If you get a cat with short hair, keep it groomed, and vacuume every day it will help. Also don't let it in your room at all - that's what my allergist suggested.
- yes, Cornish or Devon Rex cats only have one layer of fur and are non-allergenic. There are others but these are the ones I am familiar with and they make great pets :D http://www.catsinfo.com/devonrex.html http://www.danadia.co.uk/
- Rex cats don't have much fur, but the have the same amount of dander as any other cat. Bred wrong, their skin can be greasy and have even more dander on it. Siberians are supposedly hypoallergenic as their dander doesn't have one of the proteins in it that most people react to, but that's sort of unsubstantiated. All cats will shed, but short haired cats will shed less hair than long haired ones, but only because the hairs themselves are shorter. Your best bet is to visit an allergist, who can advise you what you can do to control your allergies. No cat is really hypoallergenic.
- Siberian cats are for sale everywhere. I'm speaking of the geography of the United States. Try Google with Siberian Cats or Siberian Cat Breeders. You will find pages of them listed. If you don't want large choose a female Siberian. To the individual who said that they don't make nice pets, I beg to differ. Mine are fantastic and do NOT reflect the cat that you described. http://www.Siberiancats.com belongs to me.
