Cat Information

Does anyone know anything about Sphinx cats and where I could get one?

I am allergic to cat dander but I love cats and they are my boyfriends favorite animal. We decided that we want to get one but we haven't been able to find any that are for sale. We have done searches and just haven't run across any.

  3. Found the following 2 sites on Ask. Hope this helps :-)
  4. try the local pet shop
  5. Sphinx cats are very delicate animal because of their temperment to heat and cold since they have no fur. Usu. very expensive and hard to come by since they arent your normal breeds of cats. Sphinx are hairless, sometimes vocal, and very affectionate...
  6. contact all your local rescue centres and ask them to look out for you. ask them to contact you if they find one suitable for you. for UK there is RSPCA and Cats Protection good luck finding a moggy.
  7. Try www.tica.org they have listings for all breeds. We have a sphynx cat and it's a great cat. Affectionate, playful, a great pet. It gets along well with our other cats too. It's a trip showing it to people who have never seen one. The reactions are precious. By the way sphynx cats do have a little fur. It's akin to peach fuzz on a peach, but it's there. Petting one is like petting a chamois. Some will grow tufts of hair on their nose, ears, and tail. Depending on how severe your allergy is it possibly still could be a problem, just not as severe. Sphynx cats tend to get very dirty quickly because of skin oils, and need to be bathed regularly. Tica also has shows all over the world every month. You might find the nearest show and get your boy friend to go check them out. Another great way to source a breeder.
  8. Sphinx cats still have dander, just no fur. They do not usually groom as much as other cats with hair, but they still lick themselves. Many people are alleregic to a protien in their saliva, and when they naturally lose skin (dander) thats what causes problems. The good news is sphinx cats REQUIRE bathing on a regular basis, so this could cut down on your symptoms. Definately check out a breeder that has only sphinx cats and visit her home to see if you react. Good luck, they are very cool cats, but do require a little more work than furry cats.
