- good luck Breed: Peterbald Price: $2000 Location: Hammond, Oregon Description: Chocolates, Lilacs, blacks, torties and other colored kitten, born May 2005. From totally bald to light brush coat, most will lose all their hair by 9-10 months. The all would make either a great pet or a great show kitten. Willing to sell for breed...
- I show cats as well as help run a purebred rescue. $2,000 is too much, most reputable breeders do not charge this much for a Sphynx. Unfortunately, many people think that breeding cats is a way to make money. What they don't understand is that the best breeders often lose money--it costs a lot to show and provide the best health care, food, etc. The funny thing is is that the most ethical breeders often charge less than the bad ones. Most ethical breeders DO NOT advertise in the newspaper. Many don't even advertise in magazines like Cat Fancy. I suggest attending a local cat show and carefully observing the cats and talking with the breeders. If the cats look dirty or have runny eyes, walk away. Sphynx should be playful and outgoing. Also be worried if the breeder is willing to sell you a kitten on the spot. Again, most ethical breeders will set up a time after the cat show to talk to you further and decide whether to sell one of her babies to you. Stay away if the breeder doesn't require a contract and provide a written health statement. Sphynx are prone to genetic heart defects and it would be horrible to lose a beloved cat to this.
