Cat Information

Have you tried the Frontline flea treatments for cats on sale on eBay which come in a big vial?

Some eBay sites advertise a large dog dose of Frontline to be used for cats, together with a syringe (w/o the needle) to measure out the smaller doses for cats. They say the ingredients are the same and this is a much more cost effective way to use Frontline on cats. What do you think about this?

  1. NO WAY.............DO NOT TOUCH IT ! THE FACT THAT IT IS FOR DOGS IT SHOULD NOT BE USED ON CATS AND I WOULD NEVER TRUST BUYING SOMETHING LIKE THAT ON EBAY YOU WOULD BE RISKING YOUR CATS LIFE WHAT IS THE LINK TO THE PRODUCT ?
  2. Avoid it like the plague. There are a lot of Frontline and Advantage scams on e-Bay with fake product or expired product. I have never heard of that delivery method and it sounds bogus to me. Buy from legitimate online stores like 1-800-Petmeds or Doctors Foster and Smith.
  3. I would not use this.
  4. The ingredients are not the same. Dog Frontline can kill a cat. Only get Frontline and other medicines from a professional and then only in the prescribed dose and for the correct species.
  5. I've heard about this recently, I think it's shocking - really irresponsible. Yeah the theory of it is fine because it is the same drug in the different size pipettes, but I can't believe there are idiots out there who are happy to supply it in this fashion to the general public - you just KNOW there are going to be so many mistakes made. It can't be legal. Also drugs sold in this fashion are likely to be expired, if not completely bogus, and there is no possible way they've been stored properly. This is like, everything that's wrong about buying drugs online. Think I might see if I can report these people to ebay! Chalice
  6. I think you should NOT buy from ebay because you don't know where the products really come from. However, overall the practice is perfectly safe when you buy from a SAFE and reputable source such as your vet or say... Drs foster and Smith website. Multiple cat owners who need flea protection for thier cats, and SHELTERS all across the USA have been doing this for years. It's not uncommon and I know of many vets who recommend it when someone has a lot of cats and can't afford $12.00 per cat per month. There really is no reason not to do it as long as you do it correctly. Here is a Site all about it. Make you you only use Advantage or Frontline though. Do not use Frontline "Plus" as the ingredients in the cat and dog formulas are different. http://www.lisaviolet.com/cathouse/advantage.html
  7. Many of the products that you buy on eBay are expired, improperly stored, or counterfeit. Sure isn't worth any cost savings. There are also some dog flea products that are toxic to cats, although I think it's Frontline Plus. Some of them a clearly labeled as not to be used on cats. Frontline can be dosed for cats (and smaller dogs) from a larger vial, rescues and shelters do it regularly to save money - but you need the proper dosage from a vet not someone on eBay.
