Cat Information

I need suggestions to get my cat back to better health.?

She's about 14 years old, and I love her to death!!! Her name is Nanner. Anyway, she is an outside/inside cat, but lately she's been outside a lot. I've been in the same place, away from the city and in the country, ever since I've had her. In the winter she gains weight just fine and does good. But in the summer it gets bad. This time, it's the worst yet. She doesn't ever eat when she comes in, and I don't know if she's getting water out where she runs around. I'm not sure if she's getting sick; I'm out of town and I'm having a friend take care of her. Nanner always gets down when I'm gone, but all she's been doing is sleeping and not eating. I haven't gone to the vet; it's expensive and I know it's worth it, but I just can't. What can i do to get her to eat? I'll call up my friend and tell him.

  1. Your cat is very old in cat years. Most cats don't live beyond 12 years. Perhaps it's time to keep her indoors. There are many dangers outdoors and she is getting too old to protect herself. There are cat foods especially for older cats. Call your vet and ask what he recommends. Her teeth may not be able to chew hard dry food anymore. Try canned food, especially chicken and lamb which are easy to digest.
  2. It sounds like you have two options if she's not eating...have someone take her to the vet and see whats wrong or speculate until she dies from not eating. Alot of vets will work with you or tell you up front how much everything is going to cost if its serious. No one will be able to diagnose her over the internet. I hope you get help for her soon.
  3. I would just call a vet and ask them what you should do...
  4. My friend Lisa's cat is 22 years old. Cod Liver Oil has been a staple in his diet since he was 12. Eyes, skin, fur, heart, you name it, benefit from it. Please take your cat to the vet or put her down. Supervise her outside time when you can. Keep her cool. Feed her the best you can buy for her age and weight. Keep the fleas away, they will drain her blood, believe me I've seen it. Treat her to a can of Tuna every once in a while. No DRIED FOOD. Her jaw is probably sore, her teeth are probably weak. Keep her away from other cats, her immune system is probably weak.
  5. Take her to the vet. He can advise you on what to do.
  6. leave a smell of yours with the friend that looks after cat like a jumper or purfume. get your friend to make a note of drinking and eating. if she likes fish try that. try not to leave food down all day. feed in the morning if in, than take food up even if the cat didnt finish the food give fresh food when she nexts comes in take away the food when she walk away and so on. if your friend sqwints there eyes when looking at the cat its will help to reassure this is cat language the cat will do it back, yawning also tells the cat that you are not a threat. your cat really is not really that old at 14 most cats live 17 plus. good luck. cats do generally sleep more when its hot
