Cat Information

My cat is 17 pounds. I think it would be best for her health to lose weight. What should I do?

We have an auto cat box, which requires a lighter cat. She is also already on adult diet food, she is an adult. I don't know what to do. I'm not home most of the time to monitor her eating habits. I also cannot exercise her without her getting mad. I need a way that will work.

  1. how about u take away soem of her food that u give her dont give her alot and see if that makes her lose weight. but dont starve the poor cat
  2. Try a laser pointer and normally cats and dogs will chase it all around the house...it is good if you have a long hallway you can shine it down and they can chases after it.
  3. Quit feeding her dry food. Dry food is the cause of obesity in cats. Cats fed dry food feel like they are starving, so they eat and eat and eat and get fat on all the carbohydrates. This is even worse in so-called diet food, with reduced fat and even higher carbs. There isn't enough protein in dry food for them to feel like they are full. Switch her to a quality meat canned (or raw) food without gravy, and with no grains, fruits or vegetables. She will naturally lose weight when fed an appropriate diet.
  4. instead of leaving food down all the time, feed her regular meals. my cats each get 1/4 cup in the am and again in the pm. that way i know exactly how much they are eating.
  5. Get her some food with less sodium. Foods with lots of sodium: That whiskers thing Meow Mix Eureka Less sodium: Healthy Choice I think its called. They have one for house cats that doesn't have as much fat.
  6. Buy a toy, or just use a piece of string, that you can drag along the floor. She will chase after it, as if she was hunting it. That is an excellent way to exercise a cat. As for the diet food. Don't pay the extra for it. No matter what cat food you feed her, if you give her too much, she will become overweight. Just cut down what you feed her. My cat weighs 14 pound. We cut down on his food, and I exercised him, he soon lost some weight. He had 75g of food a day.
  7. As with people, she should have a check up with the Vet before she goes on any type of diet. He can help you to do it in the right way for her so she can lose weight safely.
  8. First of all you need to have a good quality food that you feed her. Figure out how much she should weigh( lose 2 lbs) then look on the chart and see how much it takes for that. Give her that food and when it's gone, it's gone. If you're home enough put the total amount of food into separate feedings. Look at some climber toys or something that she will be able to do by herself. Is there a possibility that you could get another cat so she would have someone to play with?
  9. you should feed her yourself (if you can) 2-3 times a day at the SAME time every day the serving should be about half a can of wet food mixed with a little dry food, but ask your vet for sure to excersize you should crumple up a paper ball and get her really interested in it and then flick it a bit, she could bat it around, its a fun way to excersize her, once she having fun join in, bat it around with your hands, if shes playful it would be fun =]
